Short-term contract for network and funding development

Co-organised in 2020 and 2021 by the Akademie der Künsteinm – initiative neue musik berlin / field notes and Ultima Contemporary Music Festival/Sounds Now, the symposium “Curating Diversity in Europe” offered a platform for keeping the discourse on diversity in contemporary music in Europe alive.

Due to the pandemic, the symposium was split into two parts. Part 1, which took place in September 2020, focused on the processes and profiles of curating that critically question power structures and Eurocentric patterns of thought. Part 2, in May 2021, looked at decolonization from a practical perspective, exploring concrete ways to bring decolonization into curation via a participative, workshop-based format.

To support initiatives developed at the symposium, the co-organisers are calling for expressions of interest for an individual consultant to:

  • Manage and motivate an emerging and fragile network with the aim of developing strategies for sustainable actions that support the decolonization of contemporary music, in line with the approaches explored at the Curating Diversity symposium;
  • Elaborate new strategic proposals via an open and collaborative process with said network;
  • Research appropriate European, national and/or private funding in support of these strategies.
