With Explore Ensemble

Few performers better embody the many and diverse influences that have enriched contemporary music in the early 21st century than South Korean cellist, improvisor and composer Okkyung Lee. Her work unites East and West, composed and improvised, acoustic and electronic, delicate and noisy.
Okkyung Lee performs alongside Explore Ensemble for Signals, her new work for herself and the groundbreaking sextet. Following on from exploratory sessions throughout 2024, Lee’s latest piece morphs with every outing, adapting in response to the idiosyncrasies of each performance space and the individual musicianship of the ensemble players. In Signals, Lee’s visceral extended techniques multiply among the sextet, who plunge into the depths of their instruments at both intimate and fiery extremes.
