An Open Space presented at SPOR Festival 2023
Open Spaces are productions that directly engage the audience in the creative process. Local communities new to music work with a curating team to create a musical work that may be presented at a partner’s music festival. Although a quality artistic result is a goal, the priority is to create a meaningful musical experience for audiences. Open Spaces represent a safe zone for testing different techniques that will be re-tested in different cultural contexts.
Bananskolen (Denmark) is a type of alternative school that consists of high school students, musicians, activists, and drop-outs. A school where sound is central, where students are teachers and teachers are students, and where everyone is welcome to come and teach or just observe. Bananskolen wants to be an alternative to the publicly authorised schools and therefore offers instruction in subjects and working methods that are not usually found in primary schools, universities or art academies.
Parl Kristian Bjørn Vester (b. 1974) aka. Goodiepal is a self-taught artist who works in a symbiosis of sound and reflection, keeping distance from the digitalisation that dominates our surroundings. He has been hailed as a phenomenon, has exhibited at the National Gallery of Denmark and in 2010 received the Heinrich Pris, considered the Nobel Prize of non-conformists.
As a platform that focuses on genre-crossing experiments and new work formats of audio-artistry, Bananskolen presents visitors with novel ideas and experiences. During SPOR Festival 2023, over five days, Goodiepal and Bananskolen set up a temporary art school and exhibition and filled Institut for X with performative features and archive material.
Participation in this Open Space was free of charge.
